Kelli Calabrese, America’s fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle expert, knows what today’s woman needs to perform at her highest capacity. Strength Training

As a coach, international speaker, author, and consultant, Calabrese promotes strength training as a long-term habit for every woman who wants to live her best possible life. Sadly, she believes strength training doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.

Kelli advocates for regular strength training by teaching about the plethora of benefits that accompany it. While many people believe cardiovascular exercise alone can help someone achieve his or her fitness goals, she correctly instructs that true health cannot be gained apart from strength training. Kelli tells us, “If you want to look good in the mirror, you need more than cardio. And if you’re strength training, you’ll maintain your weight loss.” She also stressed that strength training is the vehicle a woman must utilize to get that “firm, lean, athletic, sexy look.”

Kelli Calabrese insists that strength training can make the weight loss journey faster and easier, and help women keep weight off by causing their resting metabolism to burn 7 percent more calories. Not only that, it can also help someone grow lean muscle mass, increase nerve sensitivity, and look awesome! Livestrong.com adds that strength training causes a woman to gain muscle, and “muscle has a powerful effect on metabolism…by gaining just a few pounds of muscle, you can raise your metabolic rates and stay leaner.”

Fitness is part of an amazing life.

Regular physical activity is a part of enjoyable living, high self-esteem, and healthy functioning. Kelli Calabrese says it like this, “If people can just add exercise into their lives, it has such far reaching effects on everything. You are more aware of what you eat. Exercise is a phenomenal stress reliever, so you sleep better, and you handle life better.”

She also believes that a 50/50 ratio of cardio and strength training is the perfect recipe for a woman who wants to live abundantly and feel great doing it. The Mayo Clinic staff advocates this cardio/strength combination and claims, “If aerobic workouts aren’t balanced by a proper dose of strength training, you’re missing out on a key component of overall health and fitness.” It is vital to not ignore strength training, which has the ability to regulate a woman’s hormones as well as other aspects of her life.

  • Aim for 1-3 strength training sessions per week. Each session should ideally last 30-45 minutes and target all major muscle groups.
  • Invest time in practicing strength training DVDs, such as Pilates or Yoga, which can be rented from your local public library.
  • Consider taking strength training classes at your nearest YMCA or fitness club.
